Post #10: Online Presence and Social Media

Some recommendations that I would make to a new business is to begin taking advantage of the free uses of social media. Find a social site that best fits the business and start there. Social media is the gateway to discovery on the internet and so I would recommend taking those actions before having or promoting a website. As time goes on, move on to more social media platforms, as long as you can manage them all. Find ways to be active on these social media platforms. This will you keep your business relevant. Think of blog posts and other ideas of that nature, you do not want to over-promote yourself. I would like to have a more active social media presence. Perhaps taking advantage of microblogs would be what I would really like to dive deeper into. With video-sharing being a major and growing part of social media I want to take advantage of that. Another opportunity that social media offers that I want to do is more collaborations. I think that is a great way to start a commu...

Post #4: What I know Now About Copyright

Copyright is not the requirements to source a piece of someone’s work but the law under which prevents it from being used by others. If you are looking to use someone else’s images, music, or videos for your own projects you must check to know whether it is copyrighted. If there is no labeling saying it is not copyrighted you must assume that it is copyrighted. If you still want to use it, you must go through a few steps. First, you need to receive written permission from the owner to use it. In the case of copyrighted music, you need permission from both the artist and the record label. Often, you can still be charged to get permission or pay a royalty for the work you want to use. You might find this to be too much work or just too expensive of an avenue to pursue. The next option is to find work that is licensed in creative commons. This allows the maker to allow their work to be used under certain restrictions. Always know what restrictions the creator is exercising. This...

“Netiquette protects your digital reputation.” – Julie Spira I already hope that I practice good netiquette. Some more ideas that I did pick up are to make sure to respond to everyone’s responses. Just like in face to face, you don’t ignore someone when they are talking to you. I also liked the rule that for every one self-promotion you should do 10 that don’t promote you and aren’t about you. The idea to make yourself useful for others is one that I would like to implement as well. I think this assists the other part about not being just about yourself. All in all, I find netiquette is quite common sense and doesn’t take too much thinking to incorporate and execute.

Post #8: Me and Content Marketing

Value of Being the Expert You can summarize the purpose of content as educating individuals and creating individual participation in a certain field. Before you can do this, the content creator needs to have the expertise of the subject. Being the expert on the content you create makes you an authority on the subject. People will want to return to your information to learn or to participate. This makes people trust you, which is a huge asset in marketing. Content adds to marketing in many ways when utilizing social media. If the content value extends beyond just an advertisement people will be more likely to have a response. To take advantage of the response people have, use social media where people will “share” and “like” your content. Future of My Online Presence I hope to use this class to expand my writing skills. Using those exercised writing skills, I would like to begin writing more in a professional manner. Either by having a blog of my own or writing article...

Post #7: Planning My Future Website

The Steps To create a successful website is like following a cooking recipe. You need to keep things proportionally together while also making sure you select the right ingredients for what you are making. First off, I should make it clear what I am metaphorically cooking is a portfolio website for myself. Here, I will describe the different ingredients I will use to make my website. I will start looking for inspiration, and make drafts of some of the ideas I find the most attractive. From there, begin developing a wireframe and the structural layout of the webpage. Simplicity is my favorite and following the idea of a webpage being a solution I would like to blend those two ideas to make a page where people can very easily learn more about my skills and abilities. Throughout the whole process, I will be keeping everything well documented to know why things are made the way they are. This will include the page map including all the links on the webpage. First impressions ...
