Post #7: Planning My Future Website
The Steps
To create a successful website is like following a cooking
recipe. You need to keep things proportionally together while also making sure
you select the right ingredients for what you are making. First off, I should
make it clear what I am metaphorically cooking is a portfolio website for
myself. Here, I will describe the different ingredients I will use to make my
website.
I will start looking for inspiration, and make drafts of
some of the ideas I find the most attractive. From there, begin developing a wireframe and the structural layout of the webpage. Simplicity is my favorite
and following the idea of a webpage being a solution I would like to blend
those two ideas to make a page where people can very easily learn more about my
skills and abilities.
Throughout the whole process, I will be keeping everything
well documented to know why things are made the way they are. This will include
the page map including all the links on the webpage. First impressions are priceless
and translates to having an amazing home page. The hope would be to have a
homepage that does not obstruct the rest of the website. I want clear and very
purposeful navigation that does not interrupt navigation on the webpage.
The final aspect that I need to take into consideration
during this whole process is marketing. I will need to make sure that the
website is suited to sustain the marketing that I want it to have. I would love
to include some sort of call to action, who knows what that will be at this
moment though. The hardest part of the marketing aspect is picking the target
market, and then making sure the website reflects those decisions.
The Components
The different links and content that this page will be
somewhat sparse. My site being a portfolio website will not require many
outside links. The best links that this page will need are those to social media
profiles or any other portfolio website.
Content on the homepage will be a call to action, including
the basic portfolio information about myself. The navigation will have links to
pages that go deeper into the work I have done, such as an animation page,
photography page, and a graphics page. Also, included in the navigation page
would be one to testimonials about the work I have done.
A blog would be massively supportive of the marketing of
the website. The focus of images and the design will be to the target market. In
addition, it will need to be compatible with mobile systems. In order to keep
track of the success and find ways to improve the page, I will need to
incorporate an analytics gathering service into the website.
